Close to home…
By now, most of you have probably heard about the bridge over the Mississippi that came down in Minneapolis yesterday evening. Regular readers know that I grew up in Minnesota, and I still have friends and family there, so this tragedy hits close to home. (And, oddly enough, Andrew and I are heading to Minnesota today to celebrate Sweetie and Jeff’s wedding.)
I’m relieved to report that my family is all alright (though Dad had driven on that bridge yesterday morning <shutter>). Sweetie sent out an e-mail last night, and she and Jeff were safe at home at the time of the accident.
The family and friends of those lost in this disaster are in our thoughts and hearts.
Hope you aren’t flying NorthWorst! Their cancellations have been dreadful – you might not make it here by Saturday!
We were safely at home, but are close enough that we heard the bridge fall. We haven’t been over there yet, but since traffic was so bad, I’ll be walking home from work tonight instead of trying to bus it, and will see what’s going on then.
Because this is the way that we get back and forth to most of our favorite locations, it was entirely possible that we could have been there – I had already been over it twice yesterday before the collapse. I thank my lucky stars that I and my loved ones weren’t there.
Luckily, we have heard from everyone that they are ok, and are doubly looking forward to having everyone we love at our home on Saturday to celebrate not only our new lives together, but the lives of all of our loved ones.
Call me when you get here safely, and I’ll see you in two days!!!
Glad to hear everyone is okay. Have a good trip.
