Ares came into my life in October 1996 just before my birthday. My ex-roommate from the New Mexico Tech dorm (I lasted one whole semester in the dorm...ick) had been given Ares by a boyfriend. Some smart boyfriend - she was still living in the dorm, so couldn't possibly keep Ares. That was my good luck, though, because she gave him to me. Of course a few months later she disappeared from town with my microwave and cube refrigerator; perhaps she saw Ares as payment for those appliances. I'd rather have Ares.
