DC has a plethora of memorials. The memorials are generally open later
than the museums, and can require a lot of walking from Metro stops.
However, parking is a lot easier to find in DC after 5 PM, which means
you can always find parking closer to the memorials. So you may want to
plan a drive into DC one evening to see the memorials.
All of the following memorials are open year round
Here are a few of the memorials in the vicinity of the Washington and
Lincoln memorials:
The Lincoln Memorial is hard to miss. This
tribute to President Lincoln is
on the west end of the reflecting pool.
The Washington
Memorial lies on the east end of the reflectiing pool. This is
probably the most famous of the monuments, since it towers over the
DC Mall. The monument is open again to the public, but fre,
timed-entrance tickets are required. These tickets are given away
on a first-come-first-served basis at a kiosk on the momenument
grounds starting at 8 AM, but tickets go fast. See the above-linked
web site for information on advanced tickets.
The Vietnam Veterans Memorial lies close to the
Lincoln Memorial. This is a moving memorial inscribed with all the names of
soldiers lost during the Vietnam War.
