In the air

Posted by barb on Oct 4, 2005 in Random Thoughts

Fall is here. I’ve been feeling it for several weeks now. The morning funk has set in &#150 a heavy weight I have to fight to get out of bed in the morning. It’s not the cold, but the dwindling hours of sunlight. I leave the house before the sun pokes over the horizon, and the sun is already on a rapid decline when I drive home.

I drive to work in a sweatshirt now, and the sandals have been put back in the closet where they will collect dust until Spring. My jeans have replaced my shorts, and the long-sleeved shirts are slowly coming out of retirement. My one joy in the morning is a hot cup of chai.

It’s not all bad though – the blankets have returned to the bed, so the cats have, too. They’ve started snuggling on the couch again.

But it’s not enough to combat the overwhelming feeling of dread that comes with fall. This year, after suffering for the last seven years without much relief, I’m going on medication for my winter depression. Let’s hope I start to find more that’s not so bad about fall….

Sick and cocooning for the long weekend

Posted by barb on Jul 2, 2005 in Random Thoughts

My Dad brought along some unwanted house guests when he visited earlier this week — germs. I’m not sure what it is, but I’m a bit dizzy and headachy, I’m congested with a bad cough (though it’s getting better) and a sore throat, and I’ve been waffling between being too hot and too cold. I also have been sleeping a lot, when I’m not having coughing fits.

So, Andrew and I are cocooning this weekend, with vague thoughts of taking in a movie or two if we’re up to it. I’m trying to catch up on some of my blogging, but I’m finding that I don’t have the concentration for it. Here’s hoping that we feel better before too long…

Resolutions

Posted by barb on Jan 7, 2005 in Random Thoughts

For the new year, Mush and I are going to focus on getting healthier. We’ve both tried this process before, with varied successes, and this time we want to make it stick. Part of our plan to help us along is to make us accountable not just to ourselves and each other, but to, well, you. Mushi set up a blog for our efforts — I’ll include a link on the sidebar soon, but in the mean time, use this one — check it out, watch our progress, cheers us on, and prod us when we need it.

(Oh, and you should check out Mushi’s page — she’s more fun than I am 🙂
